A Middle School or High School activity that starts with a meditative nature walk giving mindful attention to the five senses. A subsequent art/poetry workshop takes advantage of the ideas generated on the walk and works with the origami "fortune teller" (also known as a "cootie catcher") to help students compose "poems of possibility." Contact me to tailor this activity for your school, and your needs. There's a touch of math in here too, since each student ends up with 16 different poems!
A Poecology Trail. This is a land-based installation of 16 works of assemblage. Each piece includes a poem whose images arise from its specific location. Several of the pieces are along the proposed corridor of the Atlantic Coast Pipieline. A book project based on the trail is currently underway. Book sales will support the "No Pipeline" movement in Nelson County. The photos at left show some materials used (wool from the sheep) and details of two of the works. See more photos of the installation in the November 26th and December 18th posts at Natural Nelson. And a few more here.
